| PlayStation Reportedly Skipping Gamescom 2022 |
According to a German games website, another high-profile publisher will be absent from the annual games expo in Cologne, Germany.
According to reports, Sony has announced that it will not be attending Gamescom this year. The yearly gaming festival in Cologne, Germany, usually takes place in late summer and will start on August 23. PlayStation's withdrawal from the expo adds to a list of publishers that already includes Nintendo, Activision Blizzard, and Take-Two Interactive.
The intentions were disclosed by Sony Interactive to the German website Games Wirtschaft. This also implies that PlayStation won't be exhibiting at Geoff Keighley's Gamescom, according to the article's Google translation:
Opening Night Live, as participation in that showcase, requires attendance at the actual performance. It's unclear when we'll see more of God of War Ragnarok in light of the fact that its release is apparently on schedule for this year.
Typically one of the biggest exhibitors at Gamescom, Sony has garnered accolades in the past and has been utilized to display third-party titles. The whole exposition complex and all of its adjacent rooms have been allocated for usage, however, GamesCom organizers have not yet announced a list of exhibitors.

Following two years of all-digital events due to COVID-19 regulations and measures, this year's Gamescom will be a mixed in-person and digital event. The event will start as usual with the Opening Night Live webcast from Keighley. The two events together bookend the season since Keighley now hosts Summer Game Fest Live as an annual event to kick off the summer.
However, similar to Gamescom, Summer Game Fest Live didn't have many publishers as official participants.
Some companies, such as Xbox, decided to have their own showcases, akin to a regular E3 press conference. A comparable comprehensive exhibition for their games has not yet been revealed by Sony or Nintendo, for example. Third-party games were the focus of a recent State of Play from Sony. Additionally, Nintendo will highlight one of its biggest autumn titles, Xenoblade Chronicles 3, in a Nintendo Direct presentation this week.
